About this Year 9 naplan-style reading practice quiz
This Year 9 reading practice set is original Success Tutoring material written in the style of NAPLAN. It is not official ACARA material and is not predictive of NAPLAN results. Students analyse two original texts: an opinion piece arguing that boredom is valuable, and a reflective story about a teenager and his grieving grandmother exploring rock pools. The ten questions target a writer's contention, hyperbole, concession and rebuttal, persuasive techniques, imagery, symbolism and character development. Detailed explanations model how to support an interpretation with evidence, the core skill of senior secondary English.
